This page includes images of birds, butterflies and dragonflies. More than 400 species of birds have been recorded in Bermuda, and during any given year around 200 species find themselves here. Some birds arrive purposefully, and some arrive unintentially, blown across the Atlantic Ocean on strong seasonal winds and hurricanes. Despite having so many birdy visitors, only 17 species of birds actually breed in Bermuda.

Bermuda is home to seven species of butterfly and two species of resident dragonfly - but other species of dragonflies do migrate here - all the way across the Atlantic Ocean!
This Grey Catbird is almost always around or in the bird bath in my garden.
The longtails returned early this year. I spotted them in the first week of February.
This gorgeous male wood duck wintered in Bermuda in 2016.
This handsome male Eastern bluebird was guarding his nest box whilst his partner gathered nesting material. Bluebirds are native to Bermuda.
Looks like caterpillars are on the menu!

This feisty Longtail chick had a pretty rubbish start to life - literally. Sadly he hatched in a nest full of plastic. My friend and i cleaned the nest out.
This image was taken 10 days after the previous image. As you can see, he is growing! Look at his new wing feathers. This little longtail is still a long way off from flying.
Can you believe this is the same bird seen in the previous two images?! Mr. Feisty has turned into Mr. Beautiful!

The Blue Dasher is one of two resident species of dragonfly in Bermuda. Dragonflies feast on the insects that eat us! They are our friends for sure!
Dragonflies are such powerful and beautiful insects!
Dragonflies eat the insects that eat us - such as gnats and mosquitoes, so they should always be a welcome site in our gardens.

This fancy little fellow showed up in our garden one day! What a treat. A few show up in Bermuda every year.
This little warbler is one of many who ended up riding Hurricane Nicole to Bermuda in October 2016. He will most likely not remain in Bermuda for very long.
These dainty insects are surprisingly resilient. It is incredible to think that they can survive everything yearly hurricanes throw at them!

Ahh...I just love Longtails. Everything about these tough but graceful sea birds brings me joy. Longtails spend most of their lives at sea.

This little fellow is arguably Bermuda's most loved bird. Incredibly bold and incredibly cute, he will certainly make sure you hear him, even if you cannot spot him!
It is July in Bermuda and it is hot hot HOT! Fortunately, our Grey catbirds know how to keep cool!
This is one of our planet's most common shorebirds, With their fancy orange legs and feet and beautiful mottled plumage, you have to love them!
